Series 7 55" 4k uhd backlight problem. 31-03-2020 04:35 AM in. The tv itself is around 7 months old, since February it has got progressively worse until today, where it seems to be gone altogether. Is this a common fault?

Happens on all of them. But if there is a significant difference then yes its a backlight issue. That said, I think at this point Samsung is the only one who can fix it.
